1 More than a Messiah! Mark 1:9 -13 Jesus more than a Messiah! Sunday, 16 March 2008 9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." 12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

2 More than a Messiah! Jesus identifies with us. Jesus belongs to us. Jesus the sinner’s friend. v 9

3 More than a Messiah! The Spirit of God coming upon the Son of God –how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power…Acts 10:38 The Spirit of God did not top up his divinity. The Spirit of God gave him the necessary power to serve God. Mark 1:8, “he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.” Jesus is both the receiver of the Spirit of God and the giver of the Spirit of God. 6 More than a Messiah! At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.
