5 Foreign students in Sweden High percentage of foreign students in advanced level education: approx. 50% in two-year master’s programs and 40% in one-year master’s programs (2007) Around 31,000 foreign students in 2007/2008 More than 80 different nationalities represented Relationship between teachers and students more informal than in many other countries. Students are active and express their own views. Group work is also common. 7 Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Program Founded in 2002 in cooperation with the General Consulate of Sweden in Istanbul in order to support Turkey’s application for EU membership. Grants scholarship for 20-25 Turkish students every year. Social sciences with priority to theses areas;  Economics/Management  Democracy/Human rights/Gender issues  Law  European studies (EU)  Environmental science and sustainability studies  Social work/Social issues

8 Application procedure for master degree programs for the academic year 2010/2011

9 Applications should be made through: www.studera.nu/english A central online application system The application system is open between 1 December, 2009 – 15 January, 2010 Apply for up to 4 master´s programmes offered by different universities in one application

10 How to apply: First of all you need to go to ”Your pages” and create a user account and get a password.

11 When you get your password you can log in and start selecting your courses. Make a selection for field of study and click”Next”. You will then get to choose university. Choose All universities if you´re not sure on where your courses are offered. Next step is to select study level and rate of study. Note that scholarships are only given for Full- time studies.

12 When you find courses that you want to apply to, click the ”Add”-button and the selected course will be put in ”Your basket”. Once you have added a programme/course, a link called ”To application” will appear in your basket. Click that link when you are satisfied with the selections you´ve made.

13 You will now get a summary of all the programmes/courses you have added. Delete the courses, if any, that you don´t like to take. After making your final selection or if you are satisfied with the choices you made in the previous step, click the Next-button.

14 In this next step you should prioritize your selections in order of preference. Accordingly, your first hand choice must be given priority 1. You can change the priority by logging in on ”Your pages” at any time until 15 January, 2010.

15 You can now see your full application. Verify that all data is correct. If everything is in order send your application by clicking the button to Send application..

16 You will get a confirmation by e- mail with all the courses that you have applied to included. Supporting documents must reach Sweden before 1 February, 2010. Send them without delay to the following address: University studies in Sweden FE 1 SE – 833 83 Strömsund SWEDEN Don´t forget to attach the cover sheet, which is essential for matching your documents to your application.

17 Applications for scholarship How to apply The application procedure for scholarships will open in March 2010. Only a limited number of Swedish Master Programs will be eligible for scholarships next year. The nomination of Master programs will take place in January/February 2010 and the list will be published as a part of the application instructions in March 2010. The result of your application will be announced on www.studera.nu/english in early May under “Your pages”.www.studera.nu/english The result of your possible application for scholarship will be announced on our website www.studyinsweden.se in early June. The decision will also be sent to you by e-mail.www.studyinsweden.se
