Growth of eJournals As the WVU Libraries purchased more periodicals in electronic formats – ILL department received more requests for articles from eJournals – By 2010, a definite shift towards eJournals, especially in the RapidILL software – Needed a way to identify licensing terms West Virginia University Libraries

Licenses: the Bad Must print before lending: InterLibrary Loans. Institutional subscribers may fulfill interlibrary loan requests from other institutions in the same country via fax or paper document delivery under National Commission on New Technological Uses (CONTU) of Copyright Works guidelines. ILL Process ILL request is received in ILLiad or RapidILL Staff uses eJournals page to check ILL lending rights West Virginia University Libraries

If the license doesn’t allow lending from an eJournal RapidILL ILL staff will “unfill” the request and it will move on to the next library in the lending string West Virginia University Libraries ILLiad Will fill the request from the Libraries’ print copy, if available ILL staff may “conditionalize” the request to see if the borrowing library is willing to wait for a paper copy to be mailed
