Terms Dropout- A Dropout is student who in enrolled in Texas public school in grades 7-12, does not return to Texas public school the following fall, is not expelled, and does not graduate, receive a GED, continue high school outside the Texas public school system or begin college, or die. Students who are not movers or leaver will become dropouts.

Leaver – A student who was enrolled at least one day in a Texas public school the prior year and does not return the following fall. This includes: 01-Graduates 03-Dies 16-Return to home country 24-College, pursue degree 60-Home school 66-Removed by CPS 78-Expelled, cannot return 81-Enroll in Texas private school 82-Enroll in school outside Texas 83- Administrative withdrawal 85-Gaduated outside Texas, returned, left again 86-Received GED outside Texas 87-Left School to enroll in the Texas University ISD Diploma 88-Ordered by court to attend a GED Program 89-Student is incarcerated in state jail or federal penitentiary as an adult 90-Student graduated another state; Education Opportunity Military

Mover A mover is student who moves or officially transfers from one Texas public school district to another. A mover is student who will be reported to PEIMS by another district.

Cohort Group of Individuals having a statistical factor in common in a demographic study. Continuers Is a Student that didn’t Graduate in their Cohort but are enroll in your school district.

PID Enrollment Tracking (PET) OVERVIEW PET(PID Enrollment Tracking) is an extension of PID in the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) that dynamically maintains up-to-date enrollment and withdrawal data for all students in Texas public school districts. Districts submit enrollment data for students in grades prekindergarten (PK) through 12 weekly, using familiar EDIT+ and PID applications and processes. The enrollment data required are the same as those required for PID, plus an enrollment and withdrawal date. School districts have the option of submitting enrollment files extracted from their student information systems or entering student records on-line. Districts can search PET to locate students or view enrollment and withdrawal histories.

State Accountability The state accountability system is comprised of two sets of procedures- standards and alternative education. Reports associated with the system include the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) report, School Report Card (SRC), Snapshot: School District Profiles, Pocket Edition, and Online Reports, all of which are available on the TEA website. Federal Accountability- AYP The No Child left behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires that all public school districts, campuses, and states be evaluated annually for AYP. The Texas AYP plan, approved by the United States Department of Education (USDE), meets NCLB requirements and provides a mechanism for evaluating districts and campuses. (Graduates Only – Does not include continuing students or GED students. May include early graduates.) Evaluated for ‘All Students’ only – Student groups used for Required Improvement as the other measure for districts and campuses offering a Grade 12

Performance-Based Monitoring (PBM) As a result of legislative action in the 78 th Regular legislative session, various federal programs are reviewed through TEA’s performance-based Monitoring (PBM). Some underlying strategies of PBM include a shift away from process to results, a strong emphasis on data integrity, and new applications of sanctions and interventions. The division uses performance performance indicators information from Division of Performance-Based Monitoring, as well as other data available to the agency, to identify districts and charter schools with potential concerns related to student performance, program effectiveness, program compliance, and data integrity. The submission of Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) data is required of all school districts. The Data Standards provides instructions regarding the submission of PEIMS data from school districts to the Texas Education Agency. The PEIMS Data Standards is for all persons involved in the PEIMS data collection process, including school district administrators, special program personnel, data control personnel, data processing staff, service center coordinators, and others. The Data Standards is for data delivery only. It should not be construed to represent the format of data available for retrieval from the PEIMS database PEIMS

Public Education Information Management System The submission of Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) data is required of all school districts. The Data Standards provides instructions regarding the submission of PEIMS data from school districts to the Texas Education Agency.

Texas Public School Systems Are reviewed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) through various accountability systems to evaluate the performance of districts and campuses. The three accountability systems are: State Accountability System, Federal Accountability System-Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), and Performance – Based Monitoring (PBM)—which is a state system for reviewing program compliance and the performance of students participating in federal programs. These three accountability systems are not mutually exclusive, rather they are interrelated. It is important for educators to understand each accountability system and the connections among these systems.
