Responsive Reading Psalm 41
Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; The Lord delivers him in times of trouble. The Lord will protect him and preserve his life; He will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
10
The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed
And restore him from his bed of illness. I said, “O Lord, have mercy on me; Heal me, for I have sinned against you.” My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die and his name perish?”
11
Whenever one comes to see me,
He speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; Then he goes out and spreads it abroad. All my enemies whisper together against me; They imagine the worst for me, saying, “A vile disease has beset him;
12
He will never get up from the place where he lies.”
Even my close friend, whom I trusted, He who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. But you, O Lord, have mercy on me; Raise me up, that I may repay them. I know that you are pleased with me,
13
For my enemy does not triumph over me.
In my integrity you uphold me And set me in your presence forever. Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

Healing 101 Matthew 14:13-16, Matthew 9:20-22 and Acts 4:8-12
Certain topics and conversations make us uncomfortable There are certain matters we simply want to ignore Many churches we stay away from the topic of healing
16
What does the bible say about healing? Are healings rare events?
Why is it even worth taking about healing?
17
Healings are a common theme in the Old as well as the New Testament
Genesis 20 tells us that Abraham prayed and God healed Abimelech’s wife who was barren
18
Why is healing so prominent? It shows us the heart of God
It is not just about God’s power It reveals God’s love and compassion
19
Matthew 14 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
20
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” 16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
21
Healing is one of the many ways God reveals his compassionate nature
In order to experience God’s compassion there are some things we must do
22
Matthew 9 20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
23
21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
24
It resembles the way we think about family when family is healthy
Scripture teaches clearly that access to the compassion and love of Jesus is possible mostly through faith Faith in the Christian sense is not just about belief and trust -- is it about a relationship with God through Christ It resembles the way we think about family when family is healthy
25
Healing… Reveals God’s love and compassion Is made possible through a faith relationship with God through Christ
26
In the New Testament healing is firmly rooted in Jesus Christ
The New Testament is Christocentric Christ paid the price, died on the cross, shed His blood The gift of Jesus ushers a new mode of operation for the Holy Spirit
27
Acts 4 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.
28
11 He (Jesus) is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
29
Healing is firmly rooted in Christ
Just like salvation is firmly rooted in Christ One heals the soul and spirit The other heals body and mind
30
Healing… Reveals God’s love and compassion Is made possible through a faith relationship with God through Christ Is firmly rooted in Christ and no other name or power
31
Two very important reasons Healing is God’s choice in Jesus
Why is this important? Two very important reasons Healing is God’s choice in Jesus Because there are other powers and authorities that look like and appear to be like Christ
32
You ask because you trust He has the power to say, yes
Rich uncle Loan Compassionate You ask because you trust He has the power to say, yes He has the power to say say, “no” because…
33
At the heart of healing… We find a compassionate God
A need to have faith A firm and clear belief in Jesus And an understanding that Jesus will do what Jesus will do
