5 Houses Some of the houses did not have walls for hot summers. There were longhouses in a little higher in the northern part of the south. The longhouses had many families that lived in them. The houses without walls only had a roof for protection from the rain.

6 Food The Southeast Indians hunted… Bears Rabbits Deer The southeast Indians also ate… Squash Corn Beans Syrup made from maple tree sap

7 Clothing Some clothes were woven from grasses and other materials like deerskin. In the cold women wore deerskin tops, pants, and moccasins. Boys wore loin cloths.

8 Duties The men provided for the family by hunting, farming, trading, and fishing. Women cooked and cleaned. The kids helped by cleaning and hunting depending on if they were a boy or a girl.

9 Customs and Traditions The Cherokee had a Green Corn Festival it was held annually. They thought it would bring them continued good luck. Indians believed in many animal spirits. So they wore animal skin because they thought if they wore the skin the animals talents would come to them.

12 Other Interesting Facts The Choctaw Indians were the first ones to move to Oklahoma The Chickasaw did not live in villages they lived in camps The Hauanasoune were good builders
