Telecom MS Telecom MS Objectives Attract vendors; Telecom and IT providers, developers as well as practitioners and researchers in a wide range of topics concerned with SOA paradigm in the Telecom domain Promote the use of SOA in Telecom Understanding current Gaps and limitations Gather Requirements Focus on resolving specific telecommunications related issues within the SOA framework on a service such as: Security, Raw performance, Service availability, Service Level Agreement (SLA) Support for incorporating service behavioral properties Support availability and reliability for mission-critical composed services Service management of mission critical composed services
5
Telecom MS Why OASIS Telecom MS Many existing SOA and Web Services standards do not address specific needs of telecoms operators/vendors One example is the orchestration of network components Several Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) are applying SOA and Web Services to the telecoms sector, but since each SDO has its own approach, this is leading to fragmentation of standards A “Member Section” in OASIS gives a clear focus on telecoms services in a SOA framework; flexibility to create tightly-focused Technical Committees as needed Aims to complement other SDO; No duplication of work Telecom MS provides a unique opportunity to become a member of an active community whose goal is to apply SOA principles to the telecom domain
6
Telecom MS Example of Open Issues (1) SOA Telecom Service Composition Composition allows Exposition of capabilities or enablers Enable other services to consume those capabilities Dynamically combining the key service enablers such as presence, billing, management etc.. Works with aggregation, federation and management of orchestrated services Sharing user data across Service Platforms is essential for creating Composite Services
