2
Today’s Meeting - Purpose Provide stakeholders with a review of project status and milestones Provide end-of-project cost estimates Provide an update on South KEG conversion costs and engineering considerations Provide an update on Genesee-Langdon line siting and landowner consultation
3
Agenda Introduction and context (Neil Millar, AESO) Overview of project status (Fred Ritter, AESO) Cost estimate update (Stephen Kane, AltaLink) S-KEG engineering considerations (Fred Ritter, AESO) Landowner consultation update (Dennis Walters, AltaLink) Questions
4
Edmonton–Calgary Reinforcement Key Elements S-KEG lines conversion to 500 kV (Keephills-Genesee-Ellerslie) New 500 kV line (Genesee to Langdon) Benefits Necessary to reliably serve Alberta (Red Deer & south) Remove barriers to new generation Significant line loss savings
5
Progress To Date AESO filed Need Identification document in May 2004 with EUB EUB hearing in December 2004, closing in January 2005 EUB Approval of Need received in April 2005 Transformer amendment filed by AESO October 13, 2005 AltaLink and EPCOR proposal to provide service (PPS) documents for the South KEG conversion received by the AESO in November 2005

18
AESO Review of TFO SKEG Proposals Engineering: Review project service proposals and associated cost estimates Review options with EPCOR Transmission and AltaLink to manage cost Detailed engineering studies ongoing Work with EPCOR Generation to coordinate with planned generator turnarounds where possible to manage costs Power Engineers providing ongoing support Planning: Review S-KEG conversion steps to determine if lower cost alternatives are possible through different sequencing of the conversion stages
19
Direction to AltaLink and EPCOR The AESO plans to issue direction to AltaLink and EPCOR Transmission in January 2006 to file a facilities application conditional upon: the EUB’s approval of the AESO’s transformer amendment; and, a review of AltaLink and EPCOR project proposals and options to manage project costs.
