What is AusStats? n Access via the ABS home page: www.abs.gov.au n Thousands of pages of ABS data delivered to your desktop n Available 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year n Updated daily after 11.30 am

How do I access AusStats? n Subscription only service n Available to university students, academics, visiting fellows and administrative staff n Seamless web access to university subscribers l no passwords needed n Users informed of cost when downloading files, but service is "free" to university end users

More on AusStats and Universities n Subscription arranged through AVCC - Australian Vice Chancellor's Committee n All Australian universities (except Notre Dame) included in this arrangement n Access controlled via domain name and IP address n Liberal usage arrangements for copying data in the university environment

What does AusStats offer? n All ABS publications from 1998 in Adobe Acrobat format n Extensive time series tables in spreadsheet format n Datasets which may be manipulated using SuperTable n Basic Community Profiles from Statistical Local Area zipped in spreadsheet format n Can move to other free ABS website content

What software do I need? n Standard www browser n Spreadsheet software such as: l Lotus 123 l Microsoft Excel n Adobe Acrobat Reader - www.adobe.com n Winzip n SuperTable: download from www.str.com.au
