1 Scaling up of growth promotion through ICDS in Madhya Pradesh Baal Sanjeevani Abhiyan

2 For scaling up of growth promotion to achieve MDG 2000 as well as goals of 10 th five year plan for the state, women & child development department started a massive campaign through out the state in partnership with unicef and health department, in the year 2001. This campaign conceived as BAL SANJEEVNI ABHIYAN

3 STRATEGIES Intensive drive for growth monitoring. Weighing every child below 5 yrs Categorization of their nutritional status. Vitamin A supplementation. Health camps for malnourished child. Increase awareness among families as well as communities about malnutrition.

6 Micro-planning at different levels viz. state, district, block. Extensive community based survey. Training & capacity building of all the functionaries about their responsibilities during the campaign. BALSANJEEVNI ACTIVITIES

7 State wide month long drive twice a year to weigh the kids, pregnant women, adolescent girls, followed by follow up rounds too. Weight recording, categorization & identification of nutritional status. Vitamin A supplementation & immunization of the children. Intensive follow up after identification of malnourished child. Medical cover through camps & parent counseling are major interventions. BALSANJEEVNI ACTIVITIES

8 8 Strengthen the Mother & Child Day strategy Family and community based intervention to improve IYCF practices, M.P. is the first state to scale up IYCF training at different levels viz. state, division, district. Proposal for training of frontline workers is yet to be sanctioned by GOI. Convergence with DPHFW to improve immunization and micronutrient coverage Partnership with UNICEF to improve Vit-A coverage KEY INTERVENTIONS IN 2005

9 BALSANJEEVNI IMPACT After the completion of eight rounds since 2001 able to narrow the gap of the target. Increase in accessibility to the uncovered & marginalized population. Substantial reduction in severe malnutrition. Reduction in moderate malnutrition. Increase in distribution of Vitamin A.

13 13 Annaprashan Program Onset of Malnutrition at the age of 6 Month among children indicate delayed start of complementary feeding To generate awareness in community on complementary feeding this program has been taken up by the State Govt.

14 14 Godbharai Program To ensure complete care of pregnant women and new born babies, this program is being launched. Community awareness, participation, ANCs and institutional deliveries are major thrust area in this program. Aiming at reduction in MMR and IMR of the State.

15 15 Birthday Celebration Program Aiming at rendering help of community in achieving ICDS goals. Make Community more close to ICDS projects so that they would get more benefits of ICDS services.

16 16 Insurance scheme for severely malnourished child  Govt. of M.P. going to launch this program with the help of New India Insurance Company. Severely malnourished child of the state would be insured under this scheme. Severely malnourished child will be given sum for their treatment by the Insurance company.
