2 2 KTH Computational Science and Engineering Center KCSE KTH Computational Science and Engineering Center Interdisciplinary center Use of computer simulations to obtain new knowledge Members from CSC, SCI, ITM, BIO, EES. Collaboration with PDC. 20 Professors, 25 Senior researchers, 35 PhD Activities: multidisciplinary research, graduate school, seminars, workshops, etc.

3 3 KTH Computational Science and Engineering Center Examples of CSE activities at KCSE: Life Science -Simulation of biological structures Materials Science -Simulation of iron structure in earth core Fluid Systems -Turbulence simulations Engineering Design and Optimization -Simulation of lightning strike Computational Neuroscience -Simulation of brain activity Computational Science and Engineering (CSE)

4 4 KTH Computational Science and Engineering Center KCSE and Visualization KCSE represents researchers at KTH in Computational Science and Engineering. Things in common: -Large scale computer simulations -Large amount of data -Scientific visualization usually not sophisticated, desktops Large potential gains from a visualization effort Goals: -Advanced scientific visualization used systematically by CSE researchers at KTH -New ways to analyze and understand results of computer simulations. -Enable new discoveries? Connections on the research side (e.g. ray tracing for other scientific problems) KCSE a natural partner in VIC.
