Have you ever looked at a butterfly and wondered if it always looked that way?
Today you will be observing, learning and discovering the life cycle of a butterfly.

4. Before Reading
Before reading From Egg to Butterfly, work with your reading buddy to take a picture walk. Observe and discuss with your partner the places where you notice a change in the size, shape and appearance of the insect. Now watch the movie to give you a preview of the butterfly life cycle. 5. During Reading
While partner reading, identify these vocabulary words. *Egg *Pupa *Caterpillar *Hatch *Insect *Butterfly Work with your partner to print out the life cycle template located on the next slide. Now, draw each stage of the life cycle while you read.

11. Teacher Information The goal of this unit is to teach students about the butterfly life cycle. After understanding the butterfly life cycle, students can compare it to other animal life cycles. This unit addresses the first grade Connecticut Science Standard: 1.3 Organisms change in form and behavior as part of their life cycles.
