Forsyth Plaza Project Process and Results of Community Engagement Forsyth Plaza, at an intersection of Lower Manhattan’s commercial and residential spaces, would benefit from community feedback and ideas to optimize proposed Plaza improvements. Renaissance Economic Development Corporation is committed to aiding the effort by offering its linguistic and cultural expertise to engage the community, 71% of whom are Asian-American within 0.25-mile radius of Forsyth Street. In 2010, Renaissance conducted a series of surveys with residents, workers, and pedestrians on Forsyth Plaza to gain their perspective. Here is how we did it and what we found.

7. Results of Community Engagement Forsyth Plaza Project Through speaking individually with 644 pedestrians, workers, and residents in the vicinity of Forsyth Plaza, survey data show a strong community desire for improvements to current conditions. In particular, 60-80% of all survey respondents expressed concerns for change on the issues of safety and friendlier community spaces. Many also support complementing the existing produce market with recreational programs and spaces. These issues can be summarized as 1) pedestrian safety 2) sanitation and 3) economic revitalization.
