Financial information for pay bargaining If you cannot access financial information in the public Domain: Request it from your employer You cannot build up a realistic case with no information It will not help your employer if you submit a pay claim and insist on that claim when it bears no relation to reality If your employer rejects your claim on financial grounds, it is up to them to prove the basis of that rejection Research

Financial information for pay bargaining If your employer still refuses: Assume that they are performing well and submit a claim on that basis Focus your arguments on information you do have relating to: Pay within the organisation (current pay rates, pay comparators, history of pay settlements) Pay outside the organisation (pay rates in other companies, national average pay settlements) The economy (cost of living, pay comparators) Labour market (average earnings, unemployment) Research

Financial information for pay bargaining How to use key financial information Show the employer is performing well (profitability, efficiency, growth, stability, new contracts) Show that the employer can afford more than they say (profit, turnover, cash flow) Show the employer is paying less as a proportion of their income than other organisations Research
