Electron Beam An electron beam can be accelerated by an electric field. Monitors Mass spectrometers Any charged particle can be accelerated by a field.

Cyclotron A dipole magnet will produce circular motion for a particle. Alternating fields between two halves of the magnet provide acceleration. This forms a cyclotron. Medical physics accelerator

Synchrotron Magnets with alternating fields can accelerate a particle. The largest accelerators are proton synchrotrons.

Multistage Acceleration next To reach the highest energies a series of accelerators are used. Linear accelerators to modest energies. Synchrotrons to higher energies.
