Basic Information of the Institution
* 07/16/96 The IDB is the oldest of all regional development institutions of the world and constitutes the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional projects of development, and those of commerce and regional integration, in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Bank was created in 1959. In actuality it is composed of 47 member countries: 26 borrowing countries 21 non borrowing countries, including the United States, Japan, Republic of Korea, Canada, Israel and 16 European countries. *

The IDB has 26 Country Offices in Latin America and the Caribbean and 2 Special Offices, one in Europe and the other in Japan. Has a staff of 1,805 employees. The total capital of the Bank as of December 31, 2006 was of $US 100,953 billion. The total of loans approved by the Bank from has been for more than $US 145,020 billion. In the year 2006, the total of loans offered by the Bank has been $US 6,380 billion. *

Employment Modalities
* 07/16/96 Employment Modalities Staff Positions Contractual Employees Consultants Temporary Help Turnover Fixed-term Trust Fund Appts. Research Fellows Open-ended Special Programs for Young Professionals Staff: Functions of the position represent areas relevant to continuing Bank business Start with Fixed-term contracts through competitive process Appointment and Relocation Consultant jobs are offered to persons for specific tasks and projects paid on a fee basis. Consultants contracts are characterized by well-defined deliverables. These deliverables are associated with highly specialized services or performance of distinct tasks required to complete specific work products at pre-determined rates. The duration of the contract will be consistent with the length of time necessary for the delivery of the specific products, but it may not extend beyond maximum of 190 working days or 1,520 working hours in any period of 12 consecutive months. Temporary Help: The Bank may hire individuals to meet temporary increases in workload or to provide services needed for short periods of time. In general, these needs are in support activities, and, unlike consultant jobs, usually do not require highly specialized skills beyond those normally acquired through some post-secondary education and relevant practical experience. The duration of the contract may not extend beyond a maximum term of 12 months less one day. Trust Fund Appointments : Trust fund appointments provide expert advice, studies, and coordination of programs and related activities pursuant to Trust Funds administered by the Bank. The terms of reference and duration of these contracts must be consistent with the requirements of the relevant fund and applicable Bank policies. Terms and conditions of contracts with individuals hired through Trust Funds, where the Bank acts as Administrator, will be in compliance with the terms and conditions established by the Trust Fund Agreement.
