NO MAN’S LAND... The Gap Between Program Completion And BRN Certification The BRN will not complete the NP/CNS certification process for 2-3 months. They will notify you of your NP license number once they receive all the necessary paperwork and process it. During this period, you cannot “hold yourself out” as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist, because you do not yet have your license and have not been formally recognized by the State of California, nor may you practice as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist during this period. Having said that, you certainly can practice as a nurse using your new knowledge and skills to supplement your nursing practice. Until such time as you have your license in hand, we recommend that you identify yourself as “RN, MS” whenever you write your name and whenever you chart.

THINGS TO REMEMBER: Detailed information will be mailed in April Location: Masonic Memorial Auditorium, San Francisco Time: Ceremony is at 6:00 - 7:30. Reception is 7:30 - 8:30. No limit to the number of guests you may invite. No tickets necessary. Consider your family and friends. Is it better to plan a later celebratory dinner reservation (e.g., 9:00 pm) or late lunch somewhere? Think, also, about planning parties or celebrations with classmates on the weekend or another day as the reception can be fun but chaotic. Arrive at Masonic at 5:00 p.m. We will separate family from graduates at 5:00. In the student/faculty assembly area, we will ask MS students to line up single file in two lines. Remember that if you want to sit with friends, you need to line up in front or in back of your friends as the two lines will go into separate sections of the auditorium.
