A water spout is basically just a weak tornado on water. Instead of having debris though, it has water in it.
3
Water Spouts occur when high altitude layers of cool air blow down across a body of water while warm wet air comes up from below, this forms a vortex which then sucks up a bunch of water.
4
It starts as a dark spot on the water. Then the spiral pattern forms and the water starts to be sucked up into the vortex. Then the water spout reaches the pinnacle of it’s strength, then it suddenly stops. This all takes about 20 minutes.
5
They can happen at any time of the year, but they mostly take place between March and October when thunder storms are most likely going to happen.
6
A water spout can come on to land and then become a tornado then it just depends on how strong the tornado is.
7
Fun Facts Water spouts are most commonly found in the Florida Keys. Wind speed during a water spout ranges anywhere from 16 to 10 knots. There are two different types of water spouts, fair weather water spouts and tornadic water spouts.
