1 (Heat Pump Heating with Fossil Fuel supplemental Heat)
TAYPLUS103A For Furnace With Add-on Heat Pump (Heat Pump Heating with Fossil Fuel supplemental Heat)

2 Objectives Understand application of heat pump with furnace.
Understand wiring and operation of TAYPLUS103A accessory with furnace and heat pump. Become familiar with trouble shooting procedures in this application.

3 WHY DUAL FUEL? Best of both worlds Heat Pump Gas Furnace
High Efficiency above balance point. High Capacity above balance point. Gas Furnace Longer operating cycles at lower outdoor temp.. Fewer start ups = less stack loss Fewer start ups = better comfort level Economy at lower outdoor temperatures

4 Size heat pump to Cooling Load.
Equipment Selection Heat Gain / Heat Loss Calculation must be done for any heat pump application. Even more important for “dual fuel” application. Size heat pump to Cooling Load. Industry guidelines allow 1.25 multiplier. Size furnace (output) to calculated heat loss. Furnace blower capacity must equal or exceed heat pump airflow requirement.

5 Plotting Heat Loss Calculation
After calculating the heat loss of the structure plotting the heat loss allows you to determine several things. Operating balance point or switch over point heat loss at various outdoor temperatures approximate heating capacity at various outdoor temperatures

6 Plotting Heat Loss Calculation This can be done on a preprinted curve sheet* or done on graph paper
Btu/h Heat Loss 5K increments 80 - 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 65 3.5 3 2.5 unit size 2 1.5 Outdoor Temperature * Pub

7 Plotting Heat Loss Calculation Step 1
Plotting Heat Loss Calculation Step 1. mark calculated loss and design temperature Example: 15of design, 47MBtu/h Loss Btu/h Heat Loss 5K increments 80 - 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 65 3.5 3 2.5 unit size 2 1.5 Outdoor Temperature

8 Plotting Heat Loss Calculation Step 2
Plotting Heat Loss Calculation Step 2. Draw line from design point to 65of Example: 15of design, 47MBtu/h Loss, Cooling load 26.8MBtu 80 - 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 Btu/h Heat Loss 5K increments 3.5 3 2.5 unit size 2 1.5 20 10 10 20 30 40 50 60 65 Outdoor Temperature
