But: today’s “western” lifestyle is not world- compatible on global scale Decoupling is emerging, but absolute environmental pressure is still increasing Efficiency gains have to compete with economic growth. (2% growth  double efficiency every 35 yrs)

7. 7 Umweltbundesamt / Germany - Karcher What needs to be done (II) Support technology and knowledge transfer outside and within EU partnerships with developing countries global promotion of IPPC techniques Change accountability of ownership and use address problem of unrestricted access at no charge to some resources Raise awareness generally for resources use (compare to success with energy issues) specifically for certain resources (see e.g. campaigns for sustainable timber)
