5 th September 2003Diane Tough SmartPORT Based on the Z39.50 technology Z39.50 is a protocol that translates commands back and forth between the local system and the external database provider. Local Unicorn user friendly interface that enables the user to capture records directly into Unicorn.

5 th September 2003Diane Tough SmartPORT at NHM Use to capture a complete cataloguing record and replace an existing brief record. External databases used – OCLC & RLIN. Not used yet at NHM for acquisition purposes or for new authorities.
