Now that people are farming, they are staying in one location longer In time, old huts collapsed and new ones were built on top of them, so that a mound was formed This was very common in Israel and Iran By measuring the depth of the debris in them the age of a settlement can be estimated They provide conclusive evidence that villages of 200 or 300 people existed and that they carried on some sort of trade or barter Within tells we can also find bodies, jewelry, pottery and clothing A tell is a rich source of artifacts.
