Sponsoring an Employee for an Advanced Degree Investing in High Potential Individuals

An investment and a commitment… By sponsoring participants in the Purdue University-Indiana University MS-MBA in Food and Agribusiness Management program, organizations make a major investment in, and commitment to, high potential individuals in their firm.

Reward, retain, enhance… Such a commitment can be a cost effective means to reward, retain, and enhance the performance of superior middle and upper- middle managers.

An immediate payback… In the Purdue-Kelley MS-MBA Program, promising managers develop analytical skills and are exposed to innovative management concepts that can have an immediate payback for the sponsoring organization.

Purdue: a focus on the marketplace… During the Purdue portion of the program, participants will dig deeply into the rapidly evolving food and agribusiness sector, and will explore the application of management decision-making tools and concepts in the context of the food and agribusiness markets.

Kelley: Looking out… The Kelley portion of the program exposes participants to other students from all areas of business allowing for additional networking and the exchange of ideas outside the food and agricultural marketplace.

Networking, sharing ideas… The exchange of experiences and ideas among the participants in the program brings fresh ideas to the sponsoring organization. This network includes both the cohort group from other food and agribusiness organizations, and individuals from a myriad of backgrounds in the general Kelley courses.

Flexibility, respecting schedules… The use of distance education technology allows completion of the degree with minimal disruption of the participant’s on-going job responsibilities. Students can travel, work through job transfers, and remain flexible with family obligations without disrupting their program.

Application, putting ideas to work… Students work on a wide variety of assignments tied directly to their current job responsibilities: –Homework application assignments, applying course ideas to the job –Team projects, volunteering company issues for team exploration –Capstone Project, addressing a significant management challenge under the guidance of program faculty

Summary… Sponsorship of a high-potential manager to the program is a powerful investment in the company’s future, and a fundamental statement to that individual about the company’s interest in, and commitment to, their career development.
