How Websites Get On Google ● Process of adding webpages to Google is called “indexing.” ● Webpages are index by “spiders.” ● Sites are added to index once the spiders find the link on another website and start the process of “crawling” the website.

First Step: Google Your Website ● To see if you're site is indexed by Google, Google the name of your website. ● Does it come up? Is it ranked #1? ● If not, search the following: – site:www.yourwebsite.com – Shows you a list of all pages that have been indexed.

Adding Website To Google ● Your website is likely already on Google. ● If not, visit: http://www.google.com/addurl/ ● Or place a link on another website. – Easy Way: Comment on a blog article and include a link to your website. – Another Way: List your business on directories such as Google Places, Yahoo Local, Yellow Pages, and Super Pages (More On This Later).

How Are Pages Ranked? ● Google has an algorithm known as “PageRank.” ● Ranks pages based on their popularity (i.e., the number of other pages that link to them). ● Bottom Line: You get better rankings based on good content + other pages linking to that content.

Elements of PageRank ● Factors Google Uses To Rank Sites: – The Two Big Factors: (1) Content; and (2) External Links – Other Factors: ● Keyword Location – In Title, Headers, Descriptions, Body ● Keyword Density (3-6%) ● Site Size – Bigger is Better ● Load Speed – Faster is Better ● Website's Age – Older is Better ● Update Frequency – More is Better ● Number of Years Register – Longer is Better ● User Behavior – Traffic, Time Spent, etc.

Content Is King ● Best strategy to get more traffic – write, write write! ● Second best strategy – write more! ● Set a writing schedule and stick to it! ● Pay SEO Copywriters if you are too busy.

Why Writing Is So Important ● Tells Google what your website is all about. ● Leads to better search engine rankings and traffic. ● Conveys to your visitors that you're an expert in your field. ● Establishes a sales message to urge your visitors to take action.

Example: The Immigration Law Group ● NationalImmigrationLawyers.com ● Paid a freelance writer $80 for 10 articles. ● Articles generated a few hundred visitors which produced 4 leads that became clients within the last 3 months. ● Earned thousands of dollars by providing their legal services.

Writing Tips ● Develop your area of expertise. ● Target a niche. ● Always urge the reader to take action. – Call you? – Sign up for your newsletter? – Download your eBook? – Add you on Facebook or Twitter? – Purchase directly from your website? – Schedule a free consultation?

Targeting Keywords ● Write down 5 keywords you want to target. ● Ideally 3-6 words. ● Be specific. ● Locations are a great way to target keywords. – Good Example: Business Consultant vs. Lehigh Valley Business Consultant. – Better Example: Lehigh Valley Small Business Consultant, Bethlehem Life Insurance Agent.

How To Write Articles For Search Engines ● Checklist: (1) Expertise; (2) Niche; (3) Targeted Keywords. ● How to Write For SEO: – Ideal Article Length: 300-500 words. – Proper Keyword Density: 3-6%. – Make sure keywords are in your website's URL, title, description, header, and body. – Automatically done with WordPress.

Using WordPress ● Content Management System – If you have a website, switch to it. – If you want a website, make sure you use it. ● Reasons to Use It: – User friendly. Easy to add content. – Search-engine friendly. – Notifies Google when new content is added.

Obtaining Links ● Strategies: – Exchanging links with other websites. – Purchasing links on websites. ● Seek out pages with high PageRank. – Blog Directories – Business Listings ● Yellow Pages, Supper Pages, BrownBook.net ● Google Places, Yahoo Business, Bing Local

Not All Links Are Equal ● Follow vs. No Follow Links – Commenting on blogs used to be a way to get lots of easy links. – Brought on “comment spammers.” – SEO “juice” from these links were then disabled to discourage this practice. – Links on Facebook, Twitter, and blog comments “don't count” for SEO. – When sites link they “vouch” for that site. If they don't, they “no follow” it.

That's how you drive traffic to your website. Here's how you make money.
