13 Background  E-learning  A reminder of what SCIE’s view of e-learning is:  'If someone is learning in a way that uses information and communication technologies, then they are e-learning.'

14 Headline achievements in e-learning  A major study in e-learning readiness within the sector by Mori  the first 10 learning objects with 20 more in production and 30 proposed  First phases of a European project - Process-oriented Learning and Information eXchange (Prolix) designed to align learning with business processes via competency gap identification  Supporting Induction in Social care (SISCo) a regional study and pilot focussing on the basic skills and induction processes in the sector

15 Overall features of the work  The research undertaken so far points to a growing awareness and readiness in the sector to e-learning and ICT use  SCIE’s work on content was eagerly awaited has been well received, and we are very conscious of the need to provide engaging, accessible and high quality products  Our work within the European project is raising issues about just how ready the small operators in our sector are  We have produced our first sets of material and work in progress can be viewed online
