Why Was SASSY Developed? 6 Annie’s sites in South Dakota with a desire to continue learning and networking Developed a relationship with the women and know we are truly making a difference Impacts and changes from Annie’s were phenomenal and wanted it to grow

How Was SASSY Put Together? Developed an advanced curriculum Builds on principles of Annie’s - Similar design: 6 sessions - Built in opportunity for more sessions Site Coordinator - Training - Jump drive - Complete Curriculum - Lesson plans - Power Points and additional resources - Advertising - Evaluations - Allow flexibility

Curriculum Focuses on the following: – Finding balance between the individual and the agricultural operation – Goal Setting – Marketing – Understanding financial documents – Implementing record keeping – Future planning

How Did We …. Self- Driven & Sustainable? Started with six sessions….. with a desire to continue HOW? Guided groups through a “study circle” exercise to: Determine interests: - For initial 6 weeks - Future weeks Ask for volunteers to help with individual topics, finding speakers, etc. Extension Educators help oversee process Currently have 6 SASSY groups, 4 are continuing at this time

Challenges Time Commitments - Participants - Site Coordinators Surfacing leaders and/or talents How to manage the sustaining portion… when some women want to continue and other don’t….

On Going Efforts Merge Annie’s/SASSY Curriculum Together Site Coordinator Training State Sponsorship Continue Working with Annie’s Sites Currently have 13 Annie’s Sites In South Dakota
