History * Macy's was founded in 1858 by Rowland Hussey Macy * The flagship store in Herald Square, New York City has been billed as the "world's largest store" since 1924 * The company has been producing the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on the streets of New York City since 1924 * R. H. Macy & Co. merged with Federated Department Stores on December 19, 1994 * In 2005, Federated acquired May Department Stores, creating the nation's second largest department store chain with $30 billion in annual sales and more than 1,000 stores.
