Methods of measuring life changes Ways of measuring the degree of stress in someone’s life include: 1.Self report questionnaire – to record major life events 2.Self report questionnaire on perceived stress – how stressed do you feel? 3.Semi structured interview – interviewee assess the impact of stress. QUALITATIVE approach

Findings A score over 150 = classified as a life crisis, increases the chance of stress related illness by 30% A score of over 300 = major crisis, increase the risk by 50% It is the change rather than the negativity of the change that is important
