DNR Wildlife Properties

The Project The Southeast Region of DNR has just started master planning for its Tier II Wildlife Properties, these include: – Cedarburg Bog Natural Area – Jackson Marsh Wildlife Area, – Kiel Marsh Wildlife Area, – Nichols Creek Wildlife Area, – Mullet Creek Wildlife Area, – Theresa Wildlife Area, and – Allenton Wildlife Area, DNR will prepare one master plan with detailed sections for each property.

The Task Development of the Regional Analysis Component of the master plan. The regional analysis component looks at: – biological and ecological, – historical and cultural, – economic, and – recreational elements of each property(s). One important aspect of the regional analysis is the identification of significant ecological and recreational needs of the region and how the property(s) contribute to these. The analysis also defines existing and future demands or constraints, both social and economic, that affect or might affect the property(s).

Student Qualifications For this project a range of student experience is needed: – Must have taken NRES/Geog 389 and be comfortable with finding data from the U.S. Census and other data sources. – Ability to communicate, especially report writing – Experience with library and web-based research – Willing to go visit properties – GIS ability – Plant, wildlife identification – Soil mapping
