History of PDAs First PDA usually considered the CASIO PF-3000 The Apple Newton also considered one of the first First PDAs were little more than digital calendars Wireless Internet technology forced the convergence of cellular phones and PDAs into smart phones

WWAN Stands for Wireless Wide Area Network Uses cellular network technology such as WIMAX to transfer data. WWAN’s incorporate encryption and authentication to provide more security. (UMTS encryption has yet to be broken) Security has vastly improved in wireless networks and will continue to improve.

Android software stack for mobile devices Android is open source software stack for mobile devices. Became open source software in October 2008. Made a software protocol for smart phones. Made it much easier for developers to develop applications for smart phones. Has linux kernel for basic security and memory management.

Whrrl Whrrl is free for several different phones. Users only have to pay for Internet access and SMS messaging. Users can see how their other people rated local hotspots such as restaurants and shopping centers Uses Google maps

Poken social networking device Poken is a gadget used for social networking. Two people touch two Pokens together and contact information is saved. The information is retrievable by plugging Poken into a USB port into a computer.

Conclusion There are practically limitless applications potential for smart phones Smart phones and mobile devices will continue to converge with social utilities applications There is a lot at stake to capture market share for the hundreds of million of dollars in the latest and greatest social networking application industry
