Time Mycenaean civilization collapses after 1200 B.C.E. 435/433 B.C.E. Begins with the Peloponnesian War 31 B.C.E. Rome takes over Greece

Administration Oligarchy: a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few (most prevalent in Sparta). City -state: a sovereign state consisting of an autonomous city with its dependencies (most powerful being Athens, Sparta and Corinth). Democracy: created in Athens around 500 B.C.E.With no single ruler, a public assembly of male citizens met 40 times a year to vote on state decisions. The agenda was set and decrees carried out by a 500-strong council, chosen by lot to serve one year each.
