5. 5 Shorter Bunch Length for ESTB C.Hast, ESTB Workshop SLAC, March 2011 Interest for shorter bunches (CLIC, accelerator R&D, etc) LCLS ultra-short bunch length: 10  m and shorter In A-line, bunch length increases to 280  m due to strong bends (24 o ) and large (optics) R56 With existing optics: 20-30  m bunch length is possible if one manages to reduce R56 by a factor 3-4 and keep  E =0.02%  Lew, Ted and Jury are looking into that Possible to preserve short bunches in ESA with adequate $ support by interested parties …
