2 Standard 3 Students will develop an understanding of their environment. Objective 2 Observe and describe weather. Observe and describe patterns of change in weather. Measure, record, graph, and report changes in local weather. Describe how weather affects people and animals. Draw pictures and create dances and sounds that represent weather features (e.g., clouds, storms, snowfall).

3 A cloud is a large collection of very tiny droplets of water or ice crystals. The droplets are so small and light that they can float in the air.

5 Three general types of clouds Cumulus clouds Cirrus clouds Stratus clouds

6 White, fluffy clouds that look like cotton balls that usually mean fair weather. Tornadoes and thunder

7 Thunder and Lightning Tornadoes Cumulus clouds form thunderstorms or tornadoes when unstable air rises The clouds grow into bigger, thicker clouds known as cumulonimbus clouds

8 The highest clouds, white and feathery, made of ice!

9 Low gray blanket that bring rain or snow. Stratus also means layers. Rain
