MISSION OVERVIEW OBJECTIVE To investigate high altitude power generation using the kinetic motion of the balloon and a generator based on the parabolic curve of a pendulum Most turbulent parts of flight will produce more electric voltage and current To capture video and images from space EXPERIMENT POTENTIAL: Provide means for alternative source of energy and power Information on kinetic energy during flight indirectly indicates mechanical stress, influencing future structures Getting back memorable pictures and video

KINETIC ENERGY GENERATOR (K.E.G) Primary payload of Dynamo Parabolic track emulates the path of a pendulum Magnets swing next to copper coils to induce current The testing process (Section 2.7) assesses the function of K.E.G. in the turbulent flight environment Voltage data collected via LASCAR EL-USB-3 data logger each second
6
DESIGN OVERVIEW Structure: Foam core, hot glue, aluminum tape LASCAR Voltage USB logger Connected to positive and negative feeds of generator Logs data with specified rate and start time Data stored on the USB, retrieved through PC-USB compatible software HOBO Data Logger Measures internal/external temperatures, humidity Data retrieved shall be correlated with altitude information Activated with external switch Image and Video Canon A780 Camera programmed to record images and video at select time intervals

BIGGEST WORRIES… Generator: Malfunctions Lack of energy generation due to design flaws Magnetic components interfering with electronics Structure: Unable to handle the rigors of flight Staying connected to GPS unit, from which altitude data is derived Being over budgeted weight/cost once construction begins Malfunctions of any other electronic components, switches, wiring, solder joints, etc…
