Romeo and Juliet ACT 1 Film Critic Carla Pohl, Juan Fernando Santos, Richard Kafie, Jonathan Massu

Lurthman It is a movie with the dialogue as the original Romeo and Juliet. The scene is a modern day. A well as the scene the way of dressing it is modern and extravagant. The first encounter between Montagues and Capulets is at a Gas Station. The party is at a huge mansion in Verona, a city which in the movie has a beach. The Montagues and Capulets are rich families in Verona.

Zeffirelli In Verona two rival families, the Montages and the Capulets. Romeo meets Juliet, a beautiful girl, only daughter of the Capulets and it's love at first sight. The party scene is older in fashion. It is romantic, though it is not the most romantic one from all three. When the two families got into the fight, the people in the town got crazy, it is more catastrophic than the Lurthman version. There is an immense difference with Zeffirelli and West side story, because west side story rather that fight by attacking each other, they simply say words between them, and they also sing to describe and resolve conflics.

West Side Story West side story is a musical It is a modern version of Romeo and Juliet and it is inspired in this play The names of the two gangs are the ¨Jets¨ and the ¨Sharks¨ The main conflict of this movie begins when Maria that forms part of the Sharks and Bernardo from the Jets fall in love, their love is very complicated since they both belong to different gangs that hate each other. The music is very modern and demonstrates the story of Romeo and Juliet into modern days.

The award goes to… We think that lurthman is the best movie of the three for different reasons first it is the most modern one and it acts perfectly Shakespheare´s play of Romeo and Juliet. Besides it is not a musical and this makes it more interesting to watch. Last it has known actors like Leonardo DiCaprio.

IN CONCLUSION The most modern movie Romeo And Juliet is probably the most different one between the three. I have noticed in the Franco Zeffirelli version of the movie, the scene of the party is considerably different, it is much older fashioned than the other two. As well it is not as much romantic as the most modern, since in the party Romeo is wearing a kind of mask, and the dances have a strange style which don’t consider romantic. Another scene which is definitely more dramatic in the Franco Zeffirelli, is when the Capulet's fight with the Montague's, in this scene the entire town where they live becomes crazy, a big disorder happens to occur in this part of the movie, as in the Leonardo Di Caprio Version the fight takes place on a gas station and its not as much catastrophic as in Franco’s, even though they use modern weapons instead of swords. While in The West Sides Story, this scene is slightly different, in the way that the two gangs (Sharks And Jets) do not actually fight, instead they just exchange words. The West Sides Story Version is mostly musical rather than being full of action scenes, it is very appreciable that this movie contains lots of varied songs and dances scenes, considering in the other two it is mostly poems than songs. Overall act 1 of the three movies are very entertaining, and their differences do not vary much at all, some characters are more entertaining than others, as well as most of the public prefers to watch the modern version because of its effects, and its background.
