3 What is M-Lab?  You’ll be able to apply what you learned in your core courses to a single project Teams of 3-5 students consult on real projects for companies and non-profits  “The best way to learn a concept is to apply it.” Mom and Apple Pie

4 What is M-Lab?  A spring quarter, project based course  70% project work, 30% lectures Lecture topics relevant to projects  Mix of faculty & external speakers

Project WorkAcademics  Letter of Understanding  Agreed project deliverables  Mid-quarter progress update  Submission of final report  Final presentation to client  Top projects compete for cash prizes!  Grade factors Primary: solutions Secondary: client satisfaction, participations  Lectures for subject breadth  Course topics: client / project management  Proposals received & reviewed over next few months

9 Student Project Proposals  Students are highly encouraged to submit their own projects Proposal Guidelines: Project must be cross-functional (e.g. not just market research) For MMM’s, projects must have mfg/process improvement focus. Scope must allow completion within 6-7 weeks (24 person days) Sponsors must donate $1,000 to the program

10 Student Project Proposals February Preliminary Project Proposal deadline Early March Proposals Scoped and Finalized Mid-march Projects posted for bidding by registered students Late March Project bidding results posted and teams finalized
