2 MICE Target Electronics & DAQ Update Hardware for stage 1 is now completed (may need to add a few additional wires if additional outputs are required – but 3 spare BNC’s are available on the back panel!) 2-Dec-09P J Smith - University of Sheffield Single key to ‘Enable’ the system.

3 MICE Target Electronics & DAQ Update Firmware that controls the target is now functional, and the bulk of the control code has been written. Some additional work to do in adding some code that will enable additional functionality once the USB code has been added. 2-Dec-09P J Smith - University of Sheffield The main task now is to ‘connect’ the control code to the USB code and to get this code working with James’ GUI. This work is now taking place An interlock to prevent the Target Frame from lowering if the target is not in hold position. The target frame will default to raised for any serious error condition. The HW changes for the additional functionality at ISIS has yet to be put in place but is on the agenda.

4 MICE ISIS BPS I’ve had a long discussion with Craig McWaters over this and I feel that there was some misunderstanding as to what an ISIS BPS signal should be. The ISIS crew have been more than happy with the signals that we provided with them a couple of month ago. But it is understood that these are for monitoring and are not robust safety signals. The ISIS trip signals for the target are tightly monitored and are one of the most sensitive trips on ISIS at present. ISIS crew are happy with the current setup. We have been very well behaved. A valid BPS signal normally has to be produced from 2 signals using 2 different technologies, in the case of the target this would ideally be a target dropped/target not dropped signal The signal cannot be produced by firmware or software, this has to be a hardwired signal that is completely fail safe. => The FPGA cannot produce such a signal! In fact the only way to produce such a signal would involve a redesign of the target such that an additional optical channel was installed. Craig has suggested that we discuss this further with the ISIS BPS officer but the feeling is that if we can avoid the requirement for a BPS then this would be good for both ISIS and us. 2-Dec-09P J Smith - University of Sheffield
