The notebook is divided into TWO sections. The Left SIDE “LOVES” student work. This is the side that you can use to show me your creativity. This is the “output” or product side. Use COLOR it helps the brain learn, process, and remember! The Right side is “RESTRICTED” and contains only information given by Your teacher. Nothing else should be placed on the RIGHT SIDE!! This is the “input” side. Use C-notes it helps the brain learn, process, and remember!

Writing Summaries A notes summary is: 3-5 sentences long. A concise statement using ORIGINAL words. Written about the important concepts, not about “I learned that---.” Sample methods of writing summaries Highlight/mark 5-10 key words in the notes and use these to write a summary. Do Compare & Contrast statements. Use a Venn Diagram

The Left Side Student output goes on the left even pages. Use multiple COLOR, it helps the brain learn, process, and remember! The left side incorporates and reflects how you learn in class as well as what you learn in class. Left side items include: Brainstorming, Metaphors and analogies, Discovery headlines, Venn diagrams, Biography posters, Data and graphs you generate, Concept maps, One pagers, Riddles, Reflection writing, Your questions, Quickwrite, Pictographs, Four square analogies, Cartoons, Quizzes, Poetry and songs,Warm-ups 12 Make an illustration explaining the topic. 1 Write the lyrics for a song. 2 Create a bookmark for this topic. 3 Write a poem 4 Create vocabulary cards for this topic. 5 Paraphrase the information into ONE sentence 6 Write four “What if” questions about the topic. 11 Create a graph. 10 Create a Venn diagram to compare/contrast. 9 Write and solve problems using the information. 8 Create an analogy and visual. 7 Write a letter to your grandmother. The 12 “Clock” questions below help focus your attention and guide your learning of the science content and concepts.

“INB's are easy to do and worth a lot of points, so take time and effort to do them well.” “Always update your table of contents so papers don't get messed up - or in case of an INB check.” “An INB is a great tool, keep it organized!” “You have to spend quality time on your INB.” “Don't leave your INB until the last day, otherwise you may be up to the early morning hours finishing assignments.” “Colorize things. It looks so much better that way” “Keep it in order, because you never know when a notebook check might come up.” “Do not save your INB until the last minute. Remember, it counts as much as a test.”

Getting started – step 1 Spiral notebooks have been purchased for you. Please bring $0.25 by Friday to pay for your INB. Once I pass out the notebooks, please place the following information on the FRONT INSIDE COVER. Place roman numerals on the bottom center of the first 5 pages. (front and back) We will glue these pages in when we are finished numbering. Step 3 Number the Pages – Place numbers on the bottom outside corner pages, starting on the first lined page (left side) with 0. – This HELPS a lot in quickly and correctly attaching the pages. – Number to the LAST page. Front and back. There should be about 130 -140 pages (depending on the notebook). 01

Student Name 3 Words/phrases that describe you Course Title – 7 th Grade Science 2010-2011 Two illustrations/pictures One picture of yourself One picture that is science related – you can draw, get it from a magazine or internet Use of Multiple Colors Be creative
