What is a Foundation Degree? 2-year degree course Combines academic work and practical skills Focuses on employability Lots of input from industry professionals Work Placements

What is publishing? It’s all about working with others to create and print an interesting new piece of writing; an exciting product; or an imaginative promotional tool.

What jobs can you do in publishing? Editorial Assistant Commissioning editor Graphic designer Marketing assistant Production controller Copy-editor/ proofreader Rights manager Publicist Sales executive Website manager

In two years you can become: A designer with a sound understanding of editorial process and marketing, or An editor with a good knowledge of design and production.

You will be taught by experienced publishers and designers in purpose- built studios using the latest industry technology and software InDesign Photoshop Digital SLR cameras Apple Macs PowerPoint Scanning

In the first year you’ll study: Contemporary Publishing Introduction to Design & Production Communication and Copywriting Professional Practice Text Editing

In the second year you’ll study: Working in Publishing: In-house and freelance Marketing and Publicity Self-initiated project/ work placement And either: Commissioning & Product Development or Professional Design Practice

This is a practical and varied course - you’ll learn about: Time management Initiative Organisation Teamwork Decision-making

You can apply to carry on into a third year to do : BA (Hons) in Creative Writing or BA (Hons) in Graphic Communication
