What is a group? What enables it to learn? Discussion of Readings… What are 3-4 key ideas? What are 2-3 connections? What are 2-3 differences? Interdependent Tasks (what) Work or performance is non-factorable and requires coordination. An incremental performance need exists. Task and final outcome rely on joint accountability. Collaborative Processes (how) Members jointly define their approach. Group is clear about their power and authority. Members engage in supportive means of communication, particularly in moments of dissent and conflict. Coherent Composition (who) Group has clear social boundaries. Members remain stable over time. Group contains an appropriate level/range of skills for the task. Group has a manageable number of members. There exist clear roles that support the group performance. Collective Commitments (why) Members have compatible and/or shared understandings of the team purposes, goals, and values. Members are committed to a final outcome. Members hold strong commitments to support one another’s personal and professional growth.
