3 Overview Of ASU Federal Work Study Program Federal Work Study (FWS) funds are fluid Average award is $2500 Over 1200 FWS participants for the 2010/2011 academic year Only 19 “Off-Campus” FWS participants Participants in the President Barack Obama Scholar Program are awarded FWS as part of their award package Total funds allocated towards FWS is over $2 million

4 Overview Of ASU Federal Work Study Program Currently: 10 active “Off-Campus” FWS partners –Out of the 10, four organizations have already indicated interest in the Changemaker program Goal by Spring 2012: 20 Changemaker FWS partners

5 Changemaker Federal Work Study Employer pays 50% of student’s wages Requirements –Work performed by the student must be in the public interest (work performed for the welfare of the community) Limitations Taxable Income For IRS Not Considered Income On FAFSA

6 Job Posting Process Go to our web site: students.asu.edu/employment. Go to the “For Employers” section and click on “Post an On-Campus Part-Time Job”. Read the instructions carefully or print out the tutorial material. Enter your organization information, choose your password and submit. Please make sure that you register as an “ASU Tempe Campus Employer.” The system will assign you an Employer ID number. Keep this ID number for future reference.

7 Job Posting Process Sample Job Posting S.E.E.K Arizona- Classroom Provider –Description: Providers work one-on-one with a child with special needs in a small group setting. Providers are responsible for developing and implementing goals, data collection, and monthly reporting on progress. S.E.E.K. Arizona runs several classes with varying schedules. Providers must be able to attend all sessions of the class for a full semester in order to be considered for the program. –Qualifications: Must have at least 3 months experience teaching and implementing lesson plans with children. Will need to be certified in CPR and First Aid.

You may select any job title, which you feel is descriptive of the job. Job titles should reflect the work the student will perform and will likely be used by the study on future resumes. Please do not use “Student Worker” as a job title. DescriptionEnter the job duties and responsibilities. QualificationsEnter any required training and experience. Pay Rate The complexity of the job determines the pay rate for the position. You may advertise your job at a rate, which is between the minimum and the maximum of the range. At the time of hire you may raise the pay rate up to the maximum of the posted wage level, but you may not pay below the advertised pay rate. Please see appendix for wage scale. If you want to pay above the maximum amount of the wage scale, a note of justification must be e-mailed to seo@asu.edu or faxed to (480) 965-9816. LocationChoose your actual job location. LevelChoose the appropriate wage level that corresponds with your pay rate. How to RespondEnter the contact instructions for students to follow. Example: Call for appointment/ Fax resume/ Apply in person/ Send e-mail.

9 Student Wage Scale 981000: STUDENT WORKER I Duties are of a routine and simple nature. Requires direct supervision with relatively specific instructions. Little or no training or experience is required. Minimum: $7.35Maximum: $8.00 982000: STUDENT WORKER II Duties are varied and less routine and involve a moderate degree of responsibility and judgment. May lead or coordinate activities of other student employees. Requires previous knowledge or skill and/or equivalent experience or training. Minimum: $7.60Maximum: $9.00 983000: STUDENT WORKER III Duties are technical and complex and involve a high degree of responsibility and judgment. May supervise or direct activities of other student employees. A significant amount of specialized training or experience is required. Minimum: $8.25Maximum: $11.00 984000: STUDENT WORKER IV Duties are highly technical and/or complex and involve a significant degree of responsibility and judgment. This classification is limited to teaching/research assistant type work or those positions requiring highly specialized skills and/or technical knowledge. Minimum: $9.75Maximum: $16.00

11 Reposting a Job Click the “Repost Job” button at the end of the job posting. Your job posting will be activated again, keeping the same job number.

12 After Making the Hiring Decision Complete the Student Hiring Authorization form Remind your student to call SEO (480-965-5186) to set-up an appointment At the appointment, we will complete the hiring paperwork process and set the student up on ASU’s payroll system. We will then mail you a package, which includes a copy of the student’s Hiring form and all necessary payroll forms
