Objective Tests Weekend Competitions and Speech, Interview, Essay (SIE) Weekday Competition Volunteer Duties for the Academic Decathlon

A.M. & P.M. Proctors Proctors ensure that student I.D.s match the number on the desk Give clear instructions and make sure testing begins and ends on time Makes certain decathletes are in their assigned seats Issues and collects testing materials Monitors students’ behavior Ensure room is quite at all times Supervise 43 decathletes

S UPER Q UIZ P ROCTORS Administer questions to decathletes during the Super Quiz Relay Serve two decathletes from two different teams all together Give five questions to one decathlete from each team Grade decathletes’ answers on the spot and keep a running total of the two teams’ scores throughout the relay (as well as the score board) Make certain a student runner collects the score sheets from the proctors to deliver to the scoring room

Ensure all guidelines are followed (this will be specified during training the day of the competition: this will primarily revolve around making sure students don’t cheat by using prohibited items) Make certain proctors have all items needed (provide them with items not available.).

Have all testing rooms properly identified with signs outside the room 45 desks organized in rows All desks have numbers on top of desk Proctor’s desk has a notepad and extra pencils

Team Registration Sign in students Check their school I.D. Distribute team packets which should have the following: testing I.D.s, pencils, lanyards, and programs Sign in volunteers Distribute name tags, program schedules, and training room locations Volunteer Registration

Test Distribution Will be carried out by JROTC students (Chicago Vocational Career Academy), Student Ambassadors, and Volunteers (Whitney Young Magnet School) Individuals must depart from the score room to deliver test to classrooms Issue and collect test upon completion

R UNNERS /F LOATERS Offer assistance as needed. This may include delivering test, getting materials for monitors to give to proctors, proctoring, helping with registration, awards preparation, setup, breakdown, and so on

Set up awards efficiently for proper distribution Give awards accordingly to students

Ensure all items go back into appropriate boxes Make sure boxes are labeled and ready for distribution pickup

Room Set up Equip rooms with: ♦ 1 notepad ♦ 5 pencils ♦ 1 stop watch ♦ proper signage outside classrooms

Essay Proctors Distribute materials Make sure guidelines are followed (i.e. no prohibitory items being used)

E SSAY R EADERS Read and judge essays according to guidelines (more information about that will be given at training the day of the competition)

Ensure all students go to designated rooms. Wait until student completes task and escort them back to proper area Repeat process

Judge Speeches and Interviews according to guidelines (interviews will held as a person would going on a job interview; additional information on guidelines given during training)

Team Registration Sign in students Distribute team packets Remind coaches to check student resumes

Volunteer Registration Sign in volunteers Distribute schedules, name tags, volunteer incentives Distribute judge packet
