2 There are 527 Districts in 159 countries throughout the world. The Rotary Club of Redondo Beach is in District 5280. The District covers the Greater Los Angeles Area Rotary is an International Organization

3 In the beginning … The first Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in 1905, by Paul P. Harris. Rotary Founder Paul Harris u This first club, with four members, met in rotation at the offices of the members - thus the name Rotary. u There are currently 28,018 clubs with 1,188,172 members.

6 Service Above Self Rotary was not long to recognize that fellowship alone would not keep a group together — there needed to be a purpose. First project was public washrooms in downtown Chicago. Rotary became the world’s first “service club”.

13 We implement the object of Rotary through the Five Avenues of Service Club Service Promotes the successful running of the club. Vocational Service Promotes of the “ideal of service” throughout the business and professional world. Community Service Promotes activities which make the community a better place to live. International Service Encourage and foster understanding and good will among people of the world. New Generations Encompasses all youth activities, and formation of new Rotary clubs.

Our mission is to provide support to local organizations and programs that enhance the well-being of community citizens, strengthen relationships and goodwill within the community, promote high ethical values and champion the Rotary ideal of service above self. 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization

19 The Rotary Club of Redondo Beach A 100% Paul Harris Club All members have been credited with a minimum of $1,000 donation (or has pledged) to the Rotary International Foundation. Members receive recognition as “Paul Harris Fellows”

20 ROTARY FOUNDATION WORLD PEACE THROUGH UNDERSTANDING 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. 23 YOUR OBLIGATIONS IN ROTARY Participation To be a Rotarian you must give of your time and talents: in community work in social functions in Club and District activities.

24 YOUR OBLIGATIONS IN ROTARY Attendance Attendance at the weekly meetings is a benefit of Rotary. A minimum of 60% is expected. You can maintain your attendance levels by making up at another Rotary Club within 14 days in advance or 14 days after a meeting is missed; or by attending a District event or a RI Convention. Or on-line.
