RockSat-C 2011 Final Presentation Mission Overview 3 RocketSat VII shall design an attitude determination system for future RocketSat-C missions Background: RocketSat VI Mission required angle of attack of rocket to properly process science data Attitude determination system was not successful Algorithm chosen required more precise sensors to determine its position in flight
4
RockSat-C 2011 Final Presentation Design Overview 4 Integrated Stack Main Board contains gyroscopes and magnetometer Optics Board CMOS sensors to act as sun sensors
5
RockSat-C 2011 Final Presentation Expected Results Determine the attitude of the rocket during the ascending portion of flight –Need magnetometer data and at least one picture of the sun Have a system that can be easily recreated for future RocketSat projects to use 5
6
RockSat-C 2011 Final Presentation Lessons Learned Don’t overcomplicate your design, but sometime complex systems are needed to meet the requirements Always allow more time to complete certain tasks than you believe Follow the schedule as much as possible 6
