2. “Summer Slide” Children who DO NOT READ in the summer can lose two to three months of reading skills. Kids who DO READ tend to gain a month of reading proficiency.

6. Connecticut Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge Schools compete based on student population and grade level. This program identifies the schools with the highest percentage of participating enrollment and the highest number of books read by participating students.

8. Summer Reading Journal All students will receive a summer reading journal. Students can write the titles of all the books they read over the summer. In the fall 2015, students can return their journal to Stillmeadow and be invited to a recognition event.

9. Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge Interactive reading minute logs Read for the World Record!

10. Logging Reading Minutes Go to scholastic.com/summer scholastic.com/summer Select KIDS “Go Now” button and enter screen name and password. This takes you right to your personal home page to log minutes. After logging your minutes, you should see a “Your minutes were successfully logged” message.
