AGENDA NACE International International Technical Activities
IMPACT Study Career Development Wrap Up
3
WHO IS NACE? Established by eleven corrosion engineers from the pipeline industry as the National Association of Corrosion Engineers in 1943
4
Nace INTERNATIONAL Protecting people, assets and the environment from corrosion
1943 218 380 419 825 NACE founded by 11 Corrosion Engineers 155 most specified corrosion standards worldwide 63 technical reports 380 Technical Committees serving every major industry 825 Training courses held in 2014 419 Corporate Members 35,751+ members in 130 countries 2015 35,751 45,403 From its beginnings in 1943, NACE has always been heavily involved in the protection of pipelines. Now, as the largest organization of corrosion professionals in the world, we are still heavily involved in the Oil and Gas industry but have branched out into other industries where corrosion is a concern. 45,403+ Active NACE Institute Certification Holders Worldwide

INDUSTRY SECTORS SERVED BY NACE MEMBERS TODAY
Infrastructure Utilities Transportation Production & Manufacturing These industry sectors comprise the majority of the NACE membership, but all industries are represented, so you should be able to find many members with common interests. As you can see, we’ve moved well beyond pipelines and this slide doesn’t even cover everything our members are doing. Infrastructure - Highway Bridges, Gas and Liquid Pipelines, Waterways and Ports, Hazmat Storage, Airports, Railroads Utilities - Gas distribution, drinking water and sewer systems, electrical utilities, telecommunications Transportation - Motor vehicles, ships, aircraft, railroad cars, hazmat transport Production & Manufacturing - Oil and Gas exploration and production, mining, petroleum refining, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, agricultural production, food processing, electronics, home appliances Government - Defense, nuclear waste storage Government

SERVING MEMBERS WORLDWIDE
NACE has 5 locations including offices in China, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Malaysia. We also have a new training facility in Dubai which is the first NACE facility of this type outside of the U.S. Section Stats: we now have 131 Sections Worldwide, 25 Student Sections in 14 Countries

IMPACT STUDY International Measures of Prevention, Application, and Economics of Corrosion Technologies
10
PREVIOUS STUDIES ON CORROSION COSTS
Economic effects of metallic corrosion in the U.S. - Battelle, 1978 Corrosion Costs and Preventive Strategies in the United States - U.S. FHWA, 2002 Past Studies have had an impact on corrosion awareness and have highlighted the overall cost of corrosion in various countries.
11
RESULTS OF 2002 STUDY U.S. Congress passed a law creating the Department of Defense Office of Corrosion Policy and Oversight The world’s first undergraduate degree in corrosion engineering Recognition of corrosion expertise as a critical factor in infrastructure planning and maintenance DoD CPO is the first and only organization of its kind. It has saved the U.S. Military $ billions and has demonstrated anywhere from a 5:1 to as high as a 40:1 ROI.
12
CHANGES SINCE EARLIER STUDIES
Demand for: Global data Economic models Templates with applied decision tree Business Environment: New technology Aging infrastructure issues worldwide New infrastructure development U.S. DoD has demonstrated ROI up to 40:1 These items represent what has come from the earlier studies: demand for data not previously covered by studies, infrastructure and technology changes, and

Cost differences between prevention vs. repair or replace
NEW IN IMPACT STUDY Cost differences between prevention vs. repair or replace This is the leading request we’ve heard from industry leaders, legislators, and media since the earlier studies were developed. “What will is cost my business/constituents/readers?” This study will develop a set of verifiable case histories showing the cost differences between prevention vs. repairs or replacement with a focus on various strategies and consequences of those strategies. This will also provide data to develop a set of tools which can be used to justify the cost of corrosion control solutions and demonstrate how rework in the field can cost times the original cost.
14
WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS STUDY?
Global Data Include world's largest national economies More Sectors Include detailed insight into all sectors Economic Models Focus on more than costs Provide case histories Create models/templates for industry use Educate lawmakers The study will verify and update existing data in the 2002 study, provide new data for global regions not included in previous studies, and integrate research based on international, regional, and academic participation and will focus on economic data to provide statistics and models that asset owners can use to implement asset preservation, management, and/or replacement.
