Lancashire Profile Population – 1.180 million (2013) including 274,531 children and young people aged 0 – 19 477 primary schools, 63 secondary, 24 nursery schools, 30 special schools, 10 short stay schools and 78 children’s centres, 28 academies 12% of pupils have a first language other than English (138 different languages) 14.7% of pupils are eligible for Free School Meals 17.8% of children live in poverty, 20.1% nationally Lancashire has some of England’s most prosperous communities, e.g. Ribble Valley, however 17 areas are ranked in the 5% most deprived in England
