3. living The life of David – an overview Israel's first ever King (Saul) is rejected by God for continual disobedience (1 Sam 15:22-23) God sends the Prophet to the house of Jesse to anoint another as king (1 Sam 16) All of Jesse's sons are rejected - ' The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart' (1 Sam 16:7). Eventually, it is discovered there is another son (David) and he is chosen (1 Sam 16:13) David enters the service of Saul and becomes one of his armour bearers (1 Sam 16:21) David stands up against the Philistine giant (Goliath) and slays him (1 Sam 17) David stays faithful to Saul even though Saul's jealousy goes out of control (1 Sam 18-31) Eventually, Saul kills himself in battle and David is officially made king over Judah and then Israel (2 Sam 2 and 5) David's reign consists of great victories, personal loss, major mistakes on his part, repentance, writing most of the Psalms and more....(2 Samuel) David dies and his son Solomon succeeds him (1 Kings 2:10)
