After World War II, The Allies set up temporary governments in several countries. The goal was to let these countries be governed by Allied military forces.

4 3. The countries that did not gain their independence, but were controlled by the U.S.S.R. were Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Poland, and Yugoslavia.

5 4. In 1946, Winston Churchill gave a speech that is often used to mark the beginning of the Cold War, in which he said “an iron curtain has descended across the continent.”
