Child hood Jean Batten was born September 15 1909 in Rotorua If jean batten was still alive she would be 106 Jean batten lived in Rotorua for 4 years before moving to Auckland In 1917 her father Frederick joined NZ Expeditionary force and was sent to the western front due two his lack of earnings this caused Jean to move from Melmerley ladies school to a state school following Fredericks return her parents split in 1920

family Frederick(father) Ellen(mother)John(brother) She had a troubled relationship with her father and a really close relationship with her mother who was a really big supporter of her flying career

Accomplishments Being the first woman to fly nonstop England to Australia and first woman to fly across the south Atlantic She won the Harmon Trophy three times from 1935-1937 She wrote 2 books called alone in the sky, Jean batten: My life

End of life She was bitten by a dog on the island of Majorca she refused treatment as a result the wound became infected and she died alone in a hotel in Majorca and was buried on the 22 January 1983
